 Online Management (BSM Online)

Degree Completion

The on-line BS in Management program is an asynchronous electronic Web based degree completion program. This non-traditional, experience-based undergraduate program for working adults is designed for current managers or professionals who take on management functions. This program is relevant to individuals in the for-profit, not-for-profit, and government sectors.

The BS in management program seeks to enhance the effectiveness of individuals involved in the management of human, fiscal, and information resources in a variety of organizational settings. Distinctive in both design and delivery, the program is taught by a faculty with strong managerial and organizational experience. The faculty in this program also have experience with Web based teaching.

This innovative program engages adults in a learning process that is highly interactive, personalized, and experiential. Sophisticated learning technologies, such as electronic simulations, case studies, team projects, and individual managerial assessments are used extensively. In addition courses taught in each term are linked with joint projects and simulations. These technologies assist the students in applying managerial theories and concepts to their work settings.

Course work concentrates on developing managerial leadership competencies required of organizations in the twenty-first century. The curriculum focuses on developing managers who can lead, organize, innovate, motivate, negotiate, inspire, and establish positive, productive relationships with those they manage. Communicating using a variety of technologies is also a critical competency for the successful manager.

The management curriculum develops managers in key areas, addressing management content areas, interpersonal skills, and technology skills. Courses in the program address these areas through integrating the following knowledge and skills:

  • Communications skills - interpersonal, oral, written, listening
  • Theoretical and practical applications of managers
  • Problem solving skills, including diagnostic evaluating and intervening
  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis skills
  • Management of change
  • Decision making skills
  • Respect for diversity, including age, gender, ethnicity, and lifestyles
  • Computer literacy and electronic communication methods
  • Global/international perspectives
  • Ability work in groups and teams

A Quality, Intensive Program

The Web based BS in Management program is an excellent opportunity for working adults to go back to school while addressing their own time and location needs. The faculty, the curriculum, and the learning process attest to the commitment to providing a strong academic experience for students while addressing the demands of today's working adult.

Responsive and relevant to what current and future organizations need, this program integrates the discipline specific content with a powerful learning experience. Students are professionals and managers from varied organizations who form a class group that stays together for the duration of the program. The class group insures peer support and shared learning from fellow students who represent divers work settings. As theory is applied to the workplace, each student's organization becomes a "living case study" that is shared with the group. Learning is enriched through this exposure to diverse people and organizations.

Course Delivery

Students can expect to spend as much time participating in each course as they would any other course. The critical difference is that time and location are no longer an issue. Students can log on from anywhere and at any time day or night to post notices to the discussion forums, or to send assignments or ask questions, or to respond to other students or the professor. Course materials, assignments and expectations, ancillary or support materials are available all the time.

The Web based BS in Management is delivered in four terms each about 17 weeks long. Prior to enrolling students must have access to a computer and an e-mail account. They must be proficient with basic computer applications.
