Sheila E. Pettersen
Sheila Petterson brings 34 years of experience as a middle school teacher, team leader, department chair and counselor to her work with practicing and aspiring middle level teachers at NLU. This is Ms.Pettersen’s second year in a full-time faculty position, having served previously as an adjunct faculty member.
Ms. Pettersen’s expertise in middle school curriculum, the developmental needs of adolescents, interdisciplinary teaching and unitplanning helps her meet the needs of students in MLE 500 and MLE502. She enjoys mentoring and supporting current and formerstudents as they face the challenges of middle level classrooms.
Ms. Pettersen holds a B.A. from Illinois Wesleyan University in History, a M.Ed. in Outdoor Education from Northern Illinois University, and an M.A. from Roosevelt University in Counseling and Human Services.
When not teaching, Sheila enjoys spending time walking along Evanston’s lakefront and kayaking at her cottage in Wisconsin.
