Welcome

The department of Reading and Language at National-Louis University offers state and nationally accredited graduate and doctoral programs in Reading, Literacy and Library Education. The programs connect the field's best practices to current research and policies. Coursework and field experiences prepare candidates for a variety of leadership roles.

Based on our professional dispositions, the graduate and doctoral programs are designed to prepare professionals who are critical thinkers, reflective practitioners, who engage in collaborative endeavors and possess the necessary skills to ensure the literacy development of all learners.

Student Testimonials

The Reading professors at NLU are leaders and experts in the field of literacy. In their classes they demonstrate how research and theory are applied to everyday teaching situations.
--Elizabeth Niemiec, 2009 graduate, NLU Reading and Language doctoral program

My passion for reading and teaching reading was enriched by my experience at NLU. Every class provided me with knowledge and tools that were immediately applicable to the students I work with everyday. Sharing this knowledge professionally and seeing my students' grow as a result of my learning has been the most rewarding part of the program.
--Cynthia Emma, 2009 graduate, Reading and language M.Ed. program
