Language and Literacy Program (M.Ed., M.S.Ed., C.A.S.)
Faculty and students in the Language & Literacy Program are interested in studying, designing, and implementing transformative approaches to language arts instruction in classrooms and libraries. The program emphasizes the interrelated nature of reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing, and visually representing across diverse contexts with a wide range of sources including technological and informational resources, and works of literature. This program also focuses on increasing educators’ knowledge and promoting reflective practice through inquiry and the development of communities of practice that maintain a commitment to teaching for equity, diversity, and social justice. Candidates may focus on a variety of topics including language and literacy, children’s and adolescent literature, language arts curricula, writing, and libraries, as well as early, middle level, and secondary literacy instruction.
