Teacher Preparation
Advanced Programs
Elementary / Middle Level Education
The elementary education programs (BA and MAT) leading to K-9 certification are committed to the preparation of future teachers in order to impact and improve the education of elementary school students while, at the same time, building a teaching force committed to excellence in elementary education. In keeping with the mission of National College of Education, a commitment to the personal and professional growth of elementary teacher candidates is at the heart of our program. Elementary teacher candidates learn to teach in order to ensure all students across the elementary grades have access to quality educations and bright futures.
The Middle Level Education Program includes the two courses in middle school education that are needed to meet the state of Illinois endorsement requirements plus additional courses in middle level teaching. Students seeking the middle school state endorsement must complete MLE500, MLE502 and have a minimum of 18 semester hours in a state approved content area. The department offers a masters degree and certificate of advanced studies in Middle Level Education for those who choose to advance their knowledge and expertise in this area, as well.
