Secondary Education
The world of secondary education is changing rapidly, and as a teacher, you want to be prepared for schools of today and the future. The Secondary Education department prepares graduates to be skilled, reflective, and responsive teachers for today's diverse and constantly evolving academic environments. We offer five programs towards certification in five content areas for grades 6–12 teachers. All courses are designed to help students integrate theory and research with practical experience, always with an eye on how this will work in today's widely varied schools. Therefore, professors emphasize self-reflection, differentiation, and constructivist learning theory in ways that inform instructional practice. You will have an additional opportunity to take four more classes to receive a masters. MAT Secondary Education students will typically earn their secondary school teacher certification. You will then continue coursework for two or three additional quarters and earn your MAT degree.
